Peterson Tavil, Esq. is a passionate advocate for justice, driven by his personal experiences growing up in Haiti, where he witnessed numerous miscarriages of justice. This profound background instilled in him a strong desire to be the voice for the voiceless and a beacon of hope for those in despair. In 2009, he immigrated to Central Florida, embarking on a challenging journey as a newcomer who spoke no English. Despite facing numerous obstacles, Peterson’s unwavering persistence, courage, determination, and discipline fueled his ambition to become a lawyer. His inspiring journey reflects not only his personal resilience but also his commitment to fighting for justice and empowering others who find themselves in vulnerable situations.
Since immigrating to Central Florida, Peterson has focused on his education and community engagement. Such focus earned him the Wall of Fame award from Orlando Tech, where he studied English from 2009-2010. Peterson is a distinguished legal professional with a comprehensive academic and practical background in law. He earned his bachelor’s degree in legal studies, along with a minor in criminal justice and a specialization in criminal law and individual liberties, from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 2014. His passion for justice and legal scholarship led him to graduate with honors from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 2019, where he published a notable article on the juvenile justice system and served as an editor of the Law Review, contributing significantly to legal discourse while also actively participating on the trial team. His practical experience includes valuable internships, such as working as a judicial intern in the juvenile division in Martinez, Contra Costa County, California (2017), and at the Federal Court for the District of Puerto Rico (2018). Additionally, he served as a certified legal intern at the Puerto Rico Federal Public Defender’s Office (2018). His academic pursuits were further enhanced by the unique opportunity to study at Oxford University, where he gained insights into Roman law and international law, reflecting his commitment to global legal perspectives and advancing his career in the legal field. In 2021, Peterson expanded his expertise further by obtaining a master’s degree in criminal justice from UCF.
From August 2019 to December 2021, Peterson served as a prosecutor at the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, where he effectively handled traffic tickets, DUI, misdemeanor crimes, juvenile matters, and felony cases. This role honed his litigation skills and equipped him with invaluable insights into the criminal justice system from the prosecution’s perspective. After his tenure as a prosecutor, he joined Geico General Insurance Company, where he represented the company in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) suits from December 2021 to September 2024. In this position, he gained significant experience in insurance defense and personal injury cases, further broadening his legal expertise.
Currently, Peterson focuses his practice on immigration, personal injury/motor vehicle accident, and criminal defense. Known for his meticulous approach and compassionate advocacy, he is committed to ensuring that his clients receive exceptional legal representation and that their rights are fiercely defended. With a wealth of experience and a diverse background, Peterson Tavil stands as a strong advocate for justice in the legal community.
